Make PowerTOP work fully in Ubuntu. Add patches to various programs for better battery life.
Intel recently released a tool which examines Linux system in terms of power consumption.
Please see: http://
First of all, I tried to run it on Feisty and got this message:
"No detailed statistics available; please enable the CONFIG_TIMER_STATS kernel option"
So it seems that the default Feisty kernel doesn't support it well.
Secondly, there are many patches available on the site that correct both kernel and user space programs behaviour to
save the power.
I think it's very important for distribution like Ubuntu to lower the power consumption. There are are many laptop users
that complain, because windows Xp handles this stuff much better. Here's a ready solution for Intel platform.
I'd be glad to see all this patches and fixes included in Gutsy.

Whiteboard
13. June - This can be closed I think. Powertop is now since some weeks inluded in gutsy gibbon repositories. Only the improvements made by powertop should be inluded into gutsy gibbon now.
08-10-07 With the powertop-1.7, you can modify the powertop.c all /proc/timers_stats to /proc/stat. That will give you some view into the power consumption
