Ideally with a switch to libcurl, the API interface should be checked to allow HTTP/1.1 persistent connections and pipelining. This would reduce the overhead when downloading many files from a single archive, since the TCP connection would be reused avoiding setup+tear-down costs. -sladen, 2006-11-21
